Evan Smith, president and editor in chief of Texas Monthly, is leaving the magazine to join the Texas Tribune, a nonprofit, nonpartisan public media organization aimed at politics, government, and other matters of statewide interest. Smith will become CEO of the new venture, which also claims Austin Ventures general partner John Thornton as the chairman and former Austin Technology Council president Alisha Ring as general manager.
