Austin ChronicleThe 20th anniversary edition of the Austin Chronicle's Best of Austin awards is out today. The issue hits newsstands around noon, but you can view the results online now. This year's list of winners included strong representation from the burgeoning E. 6th corridor east of I-35, with just about every new establishment (The Good Knight, Shangri-La, Rio Rita) earning a nod of some sort. Following the anniversary theme of this year's issue, the listings also include 'All Time Winner' awards for well-established or easily recognizable local institutions, like the Paramount, Emo's, and Barton Springs.

This year's winners include:

  • Best Best: Spike's Kick Ass Awards
  • Best Art Gallery: Okay Mountain
  • Best New Club: Shangri-La
  • Best Bar Staff: TIE: Rio Rita and Nomad
  • Best Local Politics Blog: Burnt Orange Report
  • Best Scandal: TIE: Stephen Moser and Elderly Lady Gets Tazed
  • Best New Local Business: TIE: Domy Books and House Pizzeria
  • Best Barbershop: Birds Barbershop
  • Best Window Display: Blackmail
  • Best Hip-Hop Blog: AustinSurreal.com
  • Hardest Working Vato in the Music Biz: Paul Saucido
  • Best Music to a Saint's Ear: Hotel Saint Cecilia

Also, on behalf of this staff of writers, photographers and section editors, we'd like to offer our heartfelt thanks to you guys for voting us Best of Austin for the fourth year in a row! Like in 2008, our incredible readers voted us 'Best Local Blog' and 'Best Local Entertainment Website' for 2009; we're truly honored, and vow to keep up our daily coverage of what's going on around town. A special thanks goes out, as well, to our commenters—kenneth1, seth, Wes, wattage, mdahmus, and the rest of you—you keep us (and this city) honest, and it's appreciated. As a way of expressing our gratitude, we're giving away a few special-edition 'Fat Caddy Scottie Pippen' t-shirts, which came about as a result of a hilarious comments war between feuding record labels in one of our recent interviews. Fill out the form after the jump, and we'll pick a few random winners this afternoon. Giveaway is closed; we'll be contacting winners shortly!
