[info] [tickets]Raised in a strict Christian family, the brothers Schultz, Matt and Brad, grew up in Bowling Green, Kentucky, where belligerent rock ‘n’ roll was not necessarily considered an ideal career path for the youth. Be that as it may, the siblings, inspired by the likes of Hendrix and Dylan, formed Cage The Elephant in 2005 with high school friends Lincoln Parish, Jared Champion, and Daniel Tichenor.

Cage The Elephant garnered the attention of the music industry via a scintillating show right here in Austin at SXSW in 2007. (Yeah, that kind of thing still happens.) Their early singles garnered rave reviews in the U.K. and led to a series of dates in support of the underrated English band The Pigeon Detectives in 2008, further boosting their rising star across the pond. But success in the U.S. hasn’t evaded them either. The band has performed at major festivals such as Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Coachella, All Points West, and Outside Lands over the last few years.

Although the follow-up to their self-titled debut isn’t expected till later this year, Cage The Elephant has stayed busy in 2010, releasing a video for “In One Ear” and dropping the Live at Grimey’s EP last month. And they’re on tour currently, honing material for the new album, no doubt -- catch Cage The Elephant’s exhilarating amalgamation of blues, southern-rock, and punk in town this evening at La Zona Rosa.
