But where did the money for those signatures come from? Austin lawyer Buck Wood told the Dallas Morning News on Monday that Missouri-based Take Initiative America "cannot make contributions to political parties in Texas...and to do so is a felony." Now Democrats have filed a motion for a restraining order to keep the Greens off the ballot...

Texas Democratic Party Chair Boyd Richie commented to DMN, "For [the Greens] to depend on the word of shady out-of-state Republican operatives to determine whether this is illegal would be like depending on the word of BP to determine responsibility for the oil spill. If the Green Party is truly concerned that no laws have been broken, they will welcome this judicial review."

The Greens have already asserted that they will not field candidates without confirmation that funding for the signature drive was legal.
